Q4 Energy Map

Staying balanced when the quarter gets busy.

Three decisions, not a resolution. What drains you, what you will protect, and the one small thing you will do daily to hold the rest up.

Fill it in Print it Saves your place

The last quarter pulls energy in every direction — deadlines, holidays, family, and planning for the year ahead. Without a plan it is easy to end Q4 running on fumes instead of finishing strong. This is three decisions: what drains and fuels you, what you will protect, and the one small thing you will do daily to hold the rest up.

Do not try to fix everything.

Three months is not long enough to change how you work. It is long enough to change one habit, and one shift is usually what decides whether December feels like a finish or a collapse.

Build your map

Fill it in and the summary on the right assembles itself. Print that and put it where you will see it in November, which is the month it is actually for.

01 The energy audit

Three to five in each column is plenty. Be specific enough that you would recognise it on a Tuesday.

What drains me

What gives me energy

02 Your top three priorities

Pick three and give each a non-negotiable rule — a line you will not cross. “Rest: in bed by 10pm.” “Family: Sunday dinner is family only.”

03 One daily anchor

Pick one and commit. One that happens beats three that do not.

04 What are you protecting?

The dates or the week you already know are at risk.

        The energy calendar

The part that cannot be done in a browser, and the part that does the most work. Take a blank October to December calendar and mark it up before the quarter runs you over.

        • Highlight every big event and deadline in red.
        • Add buffer days before and after each one in green — light load, recovery only. This is the step everyone skips, and it is the one that makes the difference.
        • Mark one or two focus weeks where deep work or a personal goal is protected.
        • Put it somewhere you will actually see it.

A busy season does not have to drain you.

If recovery is planned into the calendar rather than hoped for afterwards, a heavy quarter can end with more energy than it started with. Scrambling for recovery in January is the alternative, and it is the more common one.

        The weekly reset

Five minutes, every Sunday, three questions. What gave me energy last week? What drained me? What do I want to protect this week?

Do not overcomplicate it. A small, consistent reset will carry you further than chasing perfect balance, and the answers change more than you expect between October and December.
